Eli Kimmel Ms. Lehmann English 1-1A 21 September 2018 Summary of “ Rituals of Memory” In her essay “Rituals of Memory,” by Kimberly M. Blaeser argues that our relationships to our family and our community shape who we are. Blaeser gives readers a metaphor comparing those relationships to her friend’s curly, tangled hair. She supports her claim with her experiences going with the legionnaires to gravesites to honor veterans and Indian warriors. Blaeser also gives the example of her catholic life and Indian life both helping to shape her into the person she is. Blaeser concludes that stories and memories of our communities and families shape who we are. Summaries' Reflection
List one thing you've learned from writing this paper that you can apply to other writing assignments. What will that look like?
I learned that a summary tells what happens in a story or essay. I will be able to write summaries in other papers.
Identify a specific revision you were asked to make and explain why (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you revise? What did you learn?
I had a part where I had written a instead of an in front of a vowel so I changed it from a to an; I learned that you have to have an before a vowel.
What are the conventions of a summary and how did you meet those in this assignment?
A summary should tell what happened in a story in your own words. You should start it with a sentence that tells the author, the title, and the genre. I did that in my summaries.
Given more time to work on this assignment, how would you improve it?
